Filmmaker Yan Ting Yuen is born in Hong Kong but already lives in The Netherlands for over thirty years.
She has friends and family spread all over the world and wears purses from Jimmy Choo, shoes from Tod’s and Marni, clothes from Philippa K, Dries van Noten and Yamamoto. She says: “Actually I’m a Pradagirl, but I buy my happy-coloured panties at HEMA.”Warehouse HEMA was in 2010 for the second time in a row elected by the Dutch population as the most indispensable brand of The Netherlands. The Dutch all love HEMA, but… HEMA wants more. The legendary warehouse – since 1926 a household name in Dutch culture – is about to take it to the next level: conquering the world market and become a global player. With eighty stores in Belgium, a dozen in Germany and a handful in France the first steps are taken.

THE SECRET OF HEMA is a story about trial and error, Dutch sausages, toilet brushes and fancy dresses. And about this typical Dutch entrepreneurship.

The film is developed and will be realised within the Teledoc-project.
Teledoc is a collaboration between the Dutch Public Broadcasters, CoBO-Fund and the Dutch Film Fund. A Teledoc is a feature-length non-fiction film with a contemporary Dutch subject meant for a wide tv-audience, programmed on prime time on Dutch television.
